Many Social Security services are available online at https://www.ssa.gov/onlineservices/ . You can file for benefits, appeal a disability decision, set up a my Social Security account, find out if you qualify for benefits, estimate future benefits, get a benefit verification letter, change your address and phone (for beneficiaries), start or change direct deposit (for beneficiaries), replace a lost Medicare card or missing SSA-1099 and sometimes get a replacement Social Security card in certain states using your my Social Security account. You should consider Social Security online services as your first stop for service and information. If you can find what you need on the website, you’ve just saved yourself a trip to the office.
With so many services available online, you may not need to visit an office very often. But if you do, you’ll want to be able to find your closest office and find out when they are open. On the home page at www.socialsecurity.gov , click on “MENU”. On the left hand side click on “Contact Us”.
The “Contact Social Security” page contains a link to the Social Security Office Locator by clicking on “Find An Office”. By entering your zip code in the ZIP field and clicking “Locate”, you will be shown the address and phone number for the Social Security office closest to you. It also shows the office hours. If the weather is bad, click on the “Office Closings” tab before you go to make sure that the office has not closed due to the weather. The “Special Instructions” section may provide additional information about visiting the office such as parking information. If you need a map or directions, you can get them by choosing the “Get Map and Directions” tab.
So, visit us online first for service or information, but if you can’t find what you need, use the Office Locator to streamline your visit to the office and to find out when they are open for business.
